The difference you can tell:
Breed and territory

Our products come from pigs from the Duroc breed, which has been awarded Protected Ham/ Pork Shoulder from Teruel Designation of Origin status, the muscular infiltration and organoleptic characteristics of which are excellent, which imparts exceptional quality to the meat.

Portesa is a livestock company that is developing a raw material evaluation project, transforming them at the place where they are produced into products of differentiated quality.

Pork livestock breeding at farms located in the province of Teruel with an optimum level of animal welfare.

Feed factory for the optimal feeding of its livestock.

Integrated production process: genetics, selection of the best cereals, farming...

Sustainability and circular economy as business quality models.

Portesa, along with Cartesa and Aire Sano, form part of an integrated production process, achieving a traceability process for its products that is a benchmark throughout Europe. Our commitment towards, and our concern for, the territory leads us to be constantly researching and innovating in sustainability and residue recovery models, fully in line with what is referred to as the circular economy.

Animal nutrition

Animal nutrition

Portesa has a modern feed factory, situated in the town of Cella, with production capacity of up to 32 tonnes per hour, that disposes of a fully computerised production system and cutting-edge technology.

Portesa has a raw material supply agreement, for consumption in the factory, with the Teruel Cereals Cooperative. The cooperative has a vast and modern cereal storage network, which allows us to guarantee in quantity and quality the best fodder for feeding our pork livestock.

Where we are

Portesa, with central offices in Teruel, diversifies its production centres throughout upper Teruel, avoiding areas of touristic interest, being responsive to harmonious provincial development. It has 3 suckling pig production centres of its own, Lomas Rasas (Camañas), Cañalafuente (Singra) and Las Fuentes (Hinojosa de Jarque), with a total of 9,000 breeding mother pigs that produce 190,000 piglets (Teruel D.O. pork). Our "La Solana" Insemination Centre is located in Camañas, with a total of 100 Duroc males and the feed factory is in Cella. Constant R+D+i work, as well as by monitoring each and every process, allows us to improve continuously to obtain suckling pigs with extraordinary genetic qualities.

Portesa participates in the
European project BBTWINS

BBTWINS logo

Portesa works on the optimization of the agri-food value chain processes.

Portesa participates in the European project BBTWINS (digital twins) whose objective is to optimize the processes of the agri-food value chain and increase the quality of the available biomass, for a better use and further processing.

The platform is a real-time digital replica of the company's physical process that can be examined, altered and tested without interaction with the real world under different conditions, thus avoiding negative impact on the real world.

Through meat production it is demonstrated how to integrate, in a single value chain, both the entire agri-food value chain (from crop to final product) and the raw materials generated at all steps.

BBTWINS combines cutting-edge digital technologies, such as artificial intelligence (ia), machine learning, internet of things (iot), blockchain, software analytics and, big data, to predict the optimal pre-treatment and route for each raw material.

The project has a duration of 48 months and a BBI JU contribution of 4,053,705€

This project has received funding from the Biological Industries (AU) Joint Undertaking under grant agreement no. 101023334 The Joint Undertaking is supported by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program and the Biological Industries Consortium.
